I love fashion and clothes. It’s a creative outlet, a way to express myself and how I’m feeling, and it brings me joy.
I also care about our Earth and worry about our environment and our impact on it. It would be naïve to think we cannot make a difference and careless if we didn’t try. We can limit our disastrous eco-impact the fashion industry has on our Earth by ensuring we wear our clothes over and over and over. An awareness approach to fashion or ‘slow fashion’ considers the process and resources that were involved in making the clothes. Instead of buying whatever is in that season for a bargain price, slow fashion is an intentional choice of shopping less or choosing ethical clothes that are made from natural or recycled material and are of a higher quality to last longer.
If your wardrobe does need upgrading, then some other eco-friendly options include hitting the op shops, organising a clothes swap with friends, or having a look at online marketplaces.
Here are a couple of piccies of some of the pieces I’ve picked up from local second-hand markets, eBay or Facebook Marketplace. I helped make a conscious choice about buying less new stuff and saved some cash too!
